Are very important to skaters in the STARSkate program. During a test day, skaters perform specific maneuvers in front of an evaluator to see if they are eligible to move to the next level.
As per Skate Canada Guidelines, the way in which skaters try tests is being modified as of September 1, 2016. Skaters in levels Star 1 - 5 will no longer be evaluated by a Skate Canada Evaluator but by their Coach.
There is a test fee for each test challenged. This fee is sent to Skate Canada. For Star 6 - 10 skaters there is also an administration fee of $5.00 per skater (not per test). The administrative fee covers items such as evaluator's mileage, honorariums and test day food for evaluators (evaluators are volunteers). Each skater is given a test envelope by their coach/test chair if they will be testing. The fees for the tests are placed in the envelope and are paid to the Test Chair prior to test day. Tests not paid for by the due date will be refused. The test will then be considered a retry and must still be paid for.
In order to try a test the skater must meet minimum standard requirements put in place by Skate Canada. Following a test the Coach (Star 1 - 5) or the Evaluator (star 6 - 10) completes a test sheet that will indicate whether the skater passed the test or needs to retry the test. The test sheet is given to the skater following the test. A copy is sent to Skate Canada and becomes part of the skater’s record.
In our Club, those skaters in the CANSkate program are assessed on a daily basis. As soon as a skater passes they will receive either their ribbon or thier badge to show their progress. A report card will be given at the end of the season. Should you have any questions with regards to your child's progress, please contact Coach Kris at 519-935-2320
